Time is still ticking

Today is Wednesday!  Woot!  I don't know why this is exciting but it is.  Only 4 more sleeps until my ultra sound due date, and 8 more sleeps until my "by date" due date.  Time is ticking!  I have a doctors appointment today and I'm looking forward to it.  My doctor always makes me laugh, she's such a sweet heart too!  Also on the agenda today, to go for a walk down by the lake with my two sisters and their little ones and possibly a cousin in the mix too!  I secretly hope to stop at the ice cream store and pick up a scoop of rocky road ice cream.

It hit me yesterday that not this weekend but the following weekend is when a whole load of people are going to be pouring into town.  There will also be a wedding next weekend that hopefully we can attend as well as a 2 year old birthday party.  I feel bad that we can't commit to going to these events, I know as someone who has once been in the planning boat how frustrating that can be at times.  However, I know it's not up to me any more.  If it was I would give a definite yes or no, but since Kiwi is now in charge I have no say.  I'm ok with that.

Kiwi has been squirming a lot lately.  I really like when she/he puts their little foot into my hand when I have my hand resting on my stomach.  It's so tiny and so cute.  Lately I must have toast with Raspberry Jam on it for breakfast.  I don't know if this is a craving or if it's something I just suddenly really like.  Whatever it is, it's so good and the day just doesn't start off right without it.

I am wondering when Kiwi is going to make his/her debut.  I'm getting antsy because I want to meet her/him.  At the same time I am really still enjoying the pregnancy experience. I'm in no rush to get Kiwi out.  At the same time I'm so excited to finally meet this little person.

Bird update:  Inigo and Fezzik the blue ninja (yes that is what we named the blue bird) are hilarious!  We call Fezzik the blue ninja that because one, Inigo and Fezzik are best friends and so are these birds so it's fitting, and the blue ninja part comes because he's so crazy in his escape skills.  The cage will be closed and covered and yet he still finds a way out.  They are both so funny to watch.  They have little games that they enjoy playing with each other.  I find them entertaining.  Also if they get too loud just putting the blanket over half the cage makes them chirp super quiet.  I'm so happy I figured this out before Kiwi comes.  I don't think it's fair to the birds to have them covered all day long, but at the same time I don't want them to be keeping Kiwi up from their squawking times...so the half cover thing I think might just work!

Well, that's all there is to report for now.  After talking with B I have decided not to clean under the fridge and stove for now because there is still dry wall dust making it's way upstairs from the basement which is counter productive, so that item on my to do list won't get touched before Kiwi's arrival.  That was the last item on my to do list...so now I rest and possibly will make more cookies :)

Until next time,
Michelle

Bags are Packed

Well, my bags are packed and I'm ready to go.  I have 1 thing left on my to do list (and that's to clean under the fridge and stove).  Really it won't take me long, and I just need help moving them out of the way.  But with B so busy with the basement my crazy need to clean under them is being put off.  B laughed at me last night and said he couldn't believe that was the thing I was stressing the most about getting done before kiwi comes, as if kiwi cares.  I also look around and see I need to do the house cleaning today.  Dishes piled up, bathrooms need to be cleaned and laundry has some how piled up again.

Yesterday evening I went for a nice long 4 km walk with B's mom and my sister-in-law and niece.  It was a lot of fun.  I paid the price later that evening but it was worth it!  Every time I moved I had a braxton hicks contraction.  I mean everytime I moved.  I was like,  uh oh.  Than I was like, now I see what they mean about walking bringing on labour, I can see how that can happen.  I am not in labour at this point in time, but Kiwi sure is super active!!

I woke up nice and bright and early this morning.  I woke up B for work and as he was getting ready I fell back asleep.  I was shocked at myself (I don't normally fall back asleep until my afternoon nap).  Oh well.  Today my ambitions are to clean the house and take it easy.  My tummy is feeling super low and tight today, all good signs I'm assuming!

My friend Whitney had a beautiful baby girl last Monday.  As soon as I found out she had had her baby I realized that my name was the next in line for those I know expecting.  That's when I decided to pack my over night bag.  I also have a mini-list of things that I can't pack until the last minute, but don't want to forget.

This is a boring post.  Sorry.  Oh well, until next time,
Michelle and Kiwi

The nursery

Ok, so I know I said I wasn't going to post pictures of the nursery until it was complete, but it's so freaking cute I can't resist but want to share pictures of it.  This might just end up being a draft and then I won't actually post it until it is complete but for now I have to get the urge of posting pictures out of my system.  So this is mostly just going to be a picture post.  The guy in the pictures is my brother drawing out the animals and I haven't caught Bethany in action yet, but she is the one that is doing the painting!  Again, just so excited!!!!  So without further ado:

The room before any drawings started...just placing the furniture to see where each animal would work best.
 Leo the Lion
Where the African tree with monkey will go
Cameron drawing the giraffe - he does all his drawings free-hand, such talent.  I once drew a rhino for a art project and my teacher said he wanted a rhino not a dog.  I guess we know where all the artistic genes went :)
 Giraffe
 Elephant
 Drawing out the tree branches
 Tree branches
Giraffe pre-paint, looking into the crib
 The beginnings of painting
Bethany was so patient and now she hates the colour yellow.  So much detail on that giraffe
But look how awesome he looks!!!!
Elephant is getting colour
So super cute don't cha think?
I didn't get a shot of the process of the lion, he was just done so fast!!
What the wall looks like with the crib.  Kiwi's name will go above the crib as well

You can sort of see the outline of the monkey and the tree, they will get finished next week.  But look how cute that elephant is!!
Looking in the nursery from the hallway with the lights off.  So sweet!!!!

Our cousin Bethany busy painting. She did such an amazing job on everything!!
The tree with the monkey that you can hardly see.
Same picture as above, but this time with our new glider in the picture too.  It's so comfy I've already fallen asleep in it more than once.
The monkey hanging from the african tree.  I think it looks like the monkey is saying,
"do you trust me not to poop on you" above the change table...so fitting.
Monkey hanging from the tree.  The picture frame that is on the dresser will be hung on the wall above the dresser.  We will also be adding some shelves to three of the tree branches.  I'll update that later.
One little monkey hanging from the tree.  He's so cute isn't he? Well that's our nursery in a nutshell.  Just waiting for our honorary guest to arrive!

Time flies!

Wow, where has this week gone?  Each weeks seems to be going faster and faster.  I went to my doctors appointment on Tuesday and she said baby is fully engaged!  Yay!  That  just means that baby is in the desired position and it could mean baby comes any time now.  Yikes!  When my doctor asked if I was getting uncomfortable I told her yes, but baby can stay in there for a while longer as I still have a to do list.  She just laughed.

What's left on my to do list you ask?!  Well not too much actually.
1. I need to vacuum the nursery
2. pack my overnight bag
3. buy and hang some black out blinds
4. develop some photos and put them in frames and hang the frames
5. make 3 dozen cookies for a kids day camp
6. clean behind fridge and stove
7. prepare the birth announcement (so all I have to do after baby comes is enter the photo)
8. Keep up with the regular house cleaning

So really not that much left.  Today I started the dusting and I came across the banister and wouldn't you know it, it's suddenly very clean :)  On Tuesday we got our maternity photo's done.  I had gone to a baby fair and entered into every draw that was there.  And wouldn't you know it, I won both photography draws.  So I used one of them for the maternity photo's and it was fun.  Both B and I don't behave very well as we goof off a lot.  I apologized at the end if we had annoyed her.  She said we didn't.  Whew!

Our basement is also going through a huge transformation.  The drywallers arrived this week and they are quick worker bees!  The basement should be ready for painting as early as next weekend.  Than we can put in the flooring and then the final details.  wow!  I don't know if we'll have the flooring in before Kiwi's arrival, but as long as Kiwi stays put until next weekend the dust from the drywall should not interfere with our dear Kiwi's lungs.

Totally not related to anything baby:  Is it just me or has American Idol just become annoying?  I don't find the singers to be all that amazing and it just seems like a glorified karaoke show.

Also I am looking forward to tonights Grey's season finale.  It got me teary eyed last week and that was only from the preview for this week.  Also, I can't believe it, but I missed the first episode of the Bachelorette.  I don't know if I'll be so committed to watching it this year anyways because I'm sure my days will be filled with more important things, plus my cousin Lauren is still abroad and watching the bachelor/bachelorette is only fun with her while we drink wine while we watch (Again, probably something I won't be doing this year).  Plus the bachelorette that they have selected this year just doesn't sit well with me.  I don't know why, but I find her kind of annoying.  All that to say I was still shocked that I missed watching the opening episode.

Well, that's about all there is for now.  Until next time
Michelle

P.S.  Just the leaves to do on the tree and than I can post pictures of the nursery!  They are coming!

Happy Mama's day!

Happy Mother's Day to all you mama's.  I know that for some this day is hard.  I remember last year avoiding it because I was still working through my emotions of losing our little peanut.  I also remember the year before when infertility was just discovered so dealing with all the unknown answers of why it wasn't happening for us also stung a little more on this special day.  I want to be sensitive to those of you who are still struggling, it isn't easy and I'm not going to say it ever will be. Just know I'm here for you if you need to talk or vent or whatever.  I've been in that boat and I won't take for granted the gift that I have been given.  It is truly special!

Today marks 37 weeks, 3 weeks until Kiwi is "due".  We will see.  I have a feeling I'm going to be late, but it would be really cool if Kiwi was born on June 6.  The reason I say that is because than it would be 6/6/12 as a birthdate!  How awesome!  But I won't count on it, since it's up to Kiwi when she/he wants to come out of my comfy cozy tummy.

I finally finished my blanket project.  It only took me a couple of months to do an hours worth of work.  Why do I do that?  I procrastinate from exciting projects, things I'm actually looking forward to and then when I finally buckle down to it, it takes no time at all?  So strange.

I also became very nerdy and made a binder of tracking sheets.  My doctor actually recommended making one of these, keeping track of sleep patterns, eating patterns and diaper changes.  That way if there are any issues that arise it's an easy go to chart to see if anything can be explained through the patterns that emerge.  So I took this to heart and made a binder.  B asked if I actually think I'll do it, I said, I'm going to try to keep it up to date as possible for the first couple of months.  Just because I have no idea what I'm doing :)  My to do list is getting smaller and smaller each day.  All the really big things are done (Except cleaning under the stove and fridge).  Now it's just a lot of little things that are left.  So weird.

Well that's about all there is to update on that for now.  B says our nursery is very Martha Stewart.  Very colour co-ordinated and just seems like it should be in someone else's house.  I hope to have pictures of the nursery up by the end of the week.  I already have the blog post written up with the majority of pictures already...I'm just waiting for the final two pieces to be painted and then I will post that post.

Until next time,
Michelle & Kiwi

Happy Wednesday Ramblings

Whew, taking another break because well, I moved a couple of things in the cupboard that that seemed to be enough to warrant a break.  I find myself getting tired or out of breath so quickly and with as big of a to do list as I have for the next few weeks I didn't account for that, so it might not all get done.  Oh well, I'm sure Kiwi won't mind if the top of the cupboards get cleaned or not.  Although that is on my to do list for today :)  As soon as I get my next wind I think I will conquer it so that it's just done!  And then I get to put a beloved check mark beside it indicating one more thing checked off my list.  I have two or 3 more meals to make and then the cooking part of my to do list will be done as well.  I figure going into summer we can get away with a lot of bbqing and picnic type food, so I'm not going too crazy in the frozen hot meal department.  But the baking, that's another story.  Because muffins are such an easy food to grab for breakfast I went a little crazy in that area.  I'm sure I won't regret it though.

Next Tuesday after sign language class B and I are going to get our maternity photos done.  A couple of months ago I went to a baby fair and won the draw for 50% off a maternity photo shoot.  I am pretty excited.  Hopefully Kiwi doesn't make an early debut, I guess than we can just turn it into a newborn photo shoot.  But it doesn't appear that Kiwi is quite ready as he/she hangs out near the top of my belly still.  Her/his head is down and in the proper position, but just hasn't dropped yet, which is fine by me.  Although the heartburn last night might make me reconsider that last thought :)

Alright, so I got my wind back but instead of doing the top of the cupboards I swept the floor, which brings us to another break.  I seriously can't believe how quickly my energy depletes.  I knew that I would get more tired in the last weeks but I'm surprised at how fast it comes on.

There, now I don't have to worry about Kiwi coming home and saying, "the top of the cupboards are so dusty!"  They are now nice and clean, not that you can even tell since they're so high up.  What is with this irrational type of cleaning?  Oh well, I guess I can rest now knowing that they are clean.  So weird.  And putting that check mark beside, "Clean top of cupboards" felt pretty good!

I can't do the next cleaning duty until B gets back home from LA.  Cleaning behind the fridge and stove.  The cleaning part I can do, but the moving them out of the way part I will need help with.  Did you know that when we first moved in I had never painted a wall before, so the painter let me paint one wall, and that is the wall that is behind the oven.  So I'm kind of excited to pull the oven out and clean behind it and see my master painting job!  haha.  I was also granted permission to paint one of the closets in the spare room, so whenever you come to stay you now know that I painted that closet!

I am excited, I'm going for a dinner with a friend of mine to the Mad Mango!  I believe I mentioned this place on here before. It's so yummy, very small and super duper affordable! Plus I get to visit with one of my close friends!  How better can the day get?!  I hope you're having a fabulous Wednesday!!

Until later,
Michelle

P.S. Why does spell check say the word "bbq" is spelt wrong.  You would think this would have been updated a long time ago as a proper spelling.  Just saying.  It was my only wrong spelt word in this post and I'm kind of ticked because it's not spelt wrong.

Random rant over.

Is this normal??

For the last 4 or 5 days when I wake up in the morning I forget that I'm pregnant.  Is that normal?  It's not until I go to get out of bed and realize I have this huge belly in my way of getting up in ease.  I wonder if anyone else has experienced this?  It's very strange, like I really forget, it doesn't even cross my mind at first.  Through the night I'm very aware of Kiwi and the big ol tummy but when I wake up in the morning it's like a surprise every day.  So strange.

TMI alert:  For the last few days I've been experiencing little shooting pains that don't even last a second that goes down into my girl bits.  I've heard that this is normal, but what is it?  It's not very pleasant.  I call it the lightening strikes.  Again, strange. Our bodies are so weird!

Yesterday at church I saw my friend and she's two weeks ahead of me in our pregnancy journey.  It shocked me when she said she's due in less than 2 weeks.  How did that happen?  She really wants to have her baby this coming weekend.

Other than that I'm just keeping busy trying to keep the house clean, and bake and do some cooking that I can freeze.  I love my crockpot!!!  I made stew over night and now it just needs to be contained properly and then I can start the next frozen meal.  I still feel like there's a million and one things to get done so Kiwi better just sit tight and bake some more.

B's gone this week for his last L.A. trip before Kiwi is born.

Until next time,
Michelle

Buns and muffins!

Day 3 of mat leave.  I can't believe it's May already!  Time is flying by!!  Wasn't it just Christmas?  Today I made cinnamon buns (I know I said I was going to do this yesterday but the recipe intimidated me so I held off).  The recipe is an old English recipe and it had directions in it that just didn't make much sense to me.  So today I had the desire to look up such directions and tackled it.  I did find that next time I make it I should put the dough in a bigger bowl to rise because the bowl I had it in was too small and it ended up going over the side of it.  Kind of funny.  Anyways, the last time I made cinnamon buns (granted it was my first time ever making them) I crowded them in the pan for baking so they came out kind of doughy.  This time I remembered my past mistake and made sure to give them plenty of room.  They turned out so pretty.  I had one, quality control right?!  And it was yummy! I kept two out so B could try one and I could have one for breakfast tomorrow and then froze the rest.  Than I made 2 dozen carrot muffins.  I guess it's safe to say the bake off has begun.

Today I had a nap while I let the dough rise.  When I woke up I decided I should get up and do some errands since it still needed more time to rise.  Than I went back to sleep.  Oops.  It was a very nice rest but man oh man was I groggy when I woke up.

I also washed the rest of the baby things that I had that hadn't been washed yet.  I stocked up the baby's dresser with the onesies and sleepers and such. I organized what I had into categories - newborn size, 0-3 months, 3-6 months and 6-12 months.  We only have one or two things in each drawer (except for newborn - a friend lent us all their newborn baby clothes).  It's so surreal that I'm getting the nursery ready.  The painting is coming along and it's super duper cute.  My brother did an amazing job on drawing the animals and our cousin Bethany is doing an incredible job painting them in.  I am so very pleased with the outcome so far.  She has the big African tree and monkey left to do and then it will be complete.  I am tempted to put pictures up already but I think I should wait until next week when the product will be complete.  Just know it's so cute and I can't wait to spend a lot of time in there.

I think I need to have a shower cause my back is getting sore again.  It's weird,  I thought the pain would be in my lower back but I've been feeling back pain under my shoulder blades.  I'm guessing it's due to the weight of my belly and chest and my upper back is trying to compensate.  Just a guess.

Kiwi is super active today. I love it.  It makes me feel close to her/him.  I am getting more and more excited as the days go by. Today on the countdown it said only 35 more sleeps until my due date.  Yikes!!!

Well that's about all there is to report for today.

The List has been made.

Yesterday was my first official day of mat leave and it was busy!  I cleaned the house making sure everything was nice and clean to start fresh.  Than I made a list.  It is an extensive list of all the things I want to get done before Kiwi comes.  There are 19 things on my list within lists.  Most of those 19 things have lists within them.  I think it will keep me busy for the next 5 weeks for sure and I'm trying to remember that rest is suppose to be in there somewhere.  Are you interested in my 19 things?  Even if you're not you can skip the next part, I'll number them so it's easy to skip to the next bunch of ramble. My list includes:
1. Clean the top of the cupboards and organize cupboards
2. Clean behind the stove and fridge
3. Make meals and freeze them
4. Bake
5. Sew baby blanket
6. Shopping (yes I have this on my list because I hate shopping!)
7. Pack overnight bag
8. Pack diaper bag
9. Make a list for people who ask, what can I do to help
10. Make a spreadsheet for data collection (yes I'm nerdy like that)
11. Make baby announcement cards so all I have to do is enter the photo - address envelopes
12. De clutter walk in closet
13. Go through drawers
14. Install car seat
15. Re-arrange bathroom closet
16. Get black out blinds and install
17. Get maternity pictures done
18. Write out birth plan (Get baby out - there done)
19. Write out a list of names and numbers to call after Kiwi is born

So as you can see some of the things are straight forward and others have a list within that task.  Like baking.  One of the mom's at the centre said to make muffins because they are easy to grab out of the freezer and you can eat them while nursing.  A helpful hint coming from a very experienced mom (she has triplets). Than there's the shopping..yoy!  Just a couple essentials to still pick up but nothing too serious.  So I think today I will take the time to break those that need their own list into smaller steps.  I am also going to my final sign language class today and I found a bumbo chair for really cheap on one of the parents sites on facebook so I will be going to pick that up today as well.  My baking task for today is to make cinnamon buns.  I will put the dough together and then when I get home from my class it should have had enough time to rise and then I can finish off the product this evening.  Well that's about all there is for today.
