A Camping we will go

So like I had mentioned in yesterday's post we went camping last weekend. It was so much fun! We arrived just before 4pm and gave hugs to our friends who had already set up their tent. We quickly set up our things and chatted. It was a glorious camping trip in that we were with good company. We all enjoy a kick back and relax type camping trip so there were no hard feelings for not doing a hardcore hike or anything. It was very much what B needed as his work has been stressful lately and for him to sit back and relax is not only good for him, but for me to see him relax. Even though he says it's hard not to think about all the other things that need to be done. Anyways back to our camping trip. We lit a fire so we could prepare dinner (hotdogs on a stick) because that's just a classic camping food. We also had some Broccoli and Rice caserole as requested from B two weeks prior to the camping trip so when I said it was requested by him, he had no memory of doing so.

The camp ground we went to had a lot of rules. They were posted everywhere. In the washroom was my favourite place to read them. Including you could not use the twigs and such for your fire. You must either bring your own wood or buy some from the campground. We didn't bring
wood with us so we purchased ours from the campground. They had a very structured and sound set up around this. You tell the person outside that you're going inside to buy some wood. You go in and pay. The person at the till gives you a sticky note saying you paid and then you go outside and give your sticky note to the person who you first talked to who is now accompanied by a wheelbarrow full of wood. It was funny to say the least and we were not hesitant on making fun of it.
After we had dinner we kept putting more and more wood on the fire to make it nice and toasty cause it was starting to get COLD! Very cold. Our wood kept crackling because it was partially wet. But because we are camping with geniuses they lined the outside of the pit with the wet wood so they would dry out faster. This worked and soon enough we had a brilliant fire. We finished our evening off with banana boats. This is when you cut up a banana in 1/4's and surround it with large marshmellows...about 4-7 (depends on your taste), and some chocolate. I brought caramilk bars so we could have both chocolate and caramel. Then you put your tinfoil (nicely closed up) on top of the coals or on a grate over your fire...not in the flame. You don't want to cook it...just melt everything. Wait for about 10-15minutes and then your oozy goodness is ready. So yummy! A great way to end the evening.

Camping the first night was oober cold. It started raining at about 1am and I was shivering like crazy. Finally I put on an extra sweater and B brought out our extra blanket and then things were fine. Well almost fine. You see when we first entered into the campground we drove over some train tracks. I asked B as we drove over them, do you think these tracks still get used? And he replied, yep. I innocently thought that maybe the trains had some common courtesy and wouldn't go through the night. I was wrong. And not only did they go past every hour they honked their horn every time because they had to. Because the tracks went right over the road leading into the campground it had to announce itself every time! I don't know how else I can emphasize that it was loud. My favourite part (I'm speaking sarcastically of course) was when the one train attached itself to another one. Isn't that what everyone wants to hear about 2am? Clang, Clang, Clang! It made for some interesting conversations throughout the weekend. By the end of our weekend we were able to tune it out most of the time (it happened every hour).

We also went for a nice relaxing walk on the Saturday. It was leisurely. No rush, no intensity. It was nice. We also went and sat by the water. We didn't go in because it was just too windy making it too chilly. But sitting by it was lovely. B and our friend Jordan kept themselves busy playing with rocks and sticks. While Jeanine and myself sat calmly on the side and watched, always being entertained. We also played a few games of dominion. It is the game they introduced us to on our last camping trip and we quickly became addicted to.

The second night wasn't as cold. It was actually really nice. We woke up and started to pack up our things. This weekend went too fast we protested. But soon we were all packed up and about to say our goodbyes when the camp director came by and announced that there had been a mudslide and the highway was closed. So our adventure continued for a while longer. As we came up with a plan we decided we would go and check at the office if they had a current update on the road. When we got there we found out the road had just opened. So on our way home we went. We stopped in Sicamous and got some ice cream from the De Dutchman Dairy (soooo good) and then continued on home. And that my friends concludes our camping trip story.

Looking forward to the next camping trip. (Maybe next time without trains).

A date day

A couple of weeks ago B asked if we could go camping soon. (Actually I had suggested it a long time ago and he reminded me of my suggestion.) So I got a hold of our camping friends from Alberta and made arrangements to go camping. While B was out of town for a week I prepared for the camping trip. Making meals and such before hand so all we would have to do is heat it up(by far a great camping tip, makes life so much easier). I, like every other girl I know, likes to clean the house before departing. Something B just doesn't seem to understand. I love the feeling of leaving a clean house so you know that allyou have to do when you get home is take care of the things you bring in from the car. Saves a lot of energy in the long run! Anyways, the car was packed and already to go and I just needed to pick B up from the airport and we would be on our way.

11:45pm B's plane landed and we headed towards Revelstoke. We were staying at 3 valley gap for the night. For those who are unfamiliar it's the little ghost town along the highway. I've driven past there so many times but this was the first time we stopped there. We had a loft room which was awesome and the view was even better! It was beautiful! After a great breakfast at the little restaurant we headed back towards the Enchanted Forest and Sky Trek adventures. It was awesome! We got all geared up and did the safety course for the rope adventures. After the safety course we were feeling rather confident and wee bit cocky. That is until we started on the first real obstacle. There were 4 courses: green (easy) blue (medium), black (hard) and double Black (even harder). I am sad to say that I had to quit after the blue course. My nerves had gotten shot by the third to last obstacle on the blue obstacle. There was a rope that you walked on and it was surrounded by a net. Not too bad when I first looked at it. Well as soon as you got to the middle the rope at the top (that you held onto with your hands) and the rope at the bottom (that you're walking along) became slack making you fall backwards and holding on for dear life my little heart was racing like crazy. That was when I was mentally done as well as physically.
This was the easy rope surrounded by net. The one I freaked out on was much higher and much uglier.

However, B was still quite capable of moving on and he went through the black course. I'm sure he would have kept going but we had run out of time and had to head to our campground to meet up with our friends.
But we'll save those stories for another day.

Summer blues

Summer time woes. I don't have the car today so I'm forced to stay home(or at least within walking distance of home) and there is a lot of cleaning to be done so I know that will be on my to do list today. I also have a dress to finish but in the last 24 hours have decided to not be in love with it any more. Why must I be so fickle? I'm still going to finish it but it just doesn't seem like something I would wear any more. Weird I know. I just started it last week. Maybe tomorrow I will be in love with it again. I do have to say I'm afraid of the zipper part and it's only one step away from that part. Maybe that's why I'm shying away from it. I guess I'll just have to face my fear and do it. What's the worse that can happen. I have to unstitch again? No biggy. That's what the Brady Bunch is for.

Did I tell you that when I sew I watch the brady bunch? I enjoy it a lot and it makes the time fly by when I have to do a lot of unstitching.

Why is it that when my mental state finally comes back to "normal" I get hit with another friend announcing their pregnancy? I'm so tired of the emotional rollercoaster and I'm so sick of having jealous feelings even though I really don't want them. I've come the realization that I'm happy for others in their journey of life but I'm not the right person to gush to at this point in time.

I am excited however for what August has in store. I can't really divulge the details at this point of time but it's going to be a month of growth I think :)

Well until next time:
Off to clean the house....procrastinating......
and sew some more dress....more procrastinating

Summer Projects

So yesterday I told B that I was going to start a project. I was going to drop him off at the airport and then hit up fabricland. Once I got there I walked around to see the different fabrics that they had available. I found one I really liked and then headed over to the pattern section. I know this is backwards and I wasn't expecting it to go that way but hey, you can't fight inspiration.

Once I was in the pattern section I had gone through 3 or 4 books and picked out two patterns that I liked...just as I was about to walk away I noticed the huge selection of patterns for cheap. I went through them and ended up putting back the two patterns I had picked out and got 4 for a cheaper price than the two combined. I was quite pleased with myself...because also the fabric I found that I really liked also ended up being on sale! Woot! I'm no longer feeling too much pressure to have a masterpiece at the end of it all because it didn't put me out that much.

I will post pictures after it's all said and done...if it turns out ;)
Hope you're having a fantastic Monday

Summer days

Summer vacation has officially began. I have kept myself busy this past week by doing errands and putting around the house. Getting little things here and there done. They all seem like little jobs so when the day is complete and I'm asked "what did you do today" I honestly can't remember. "A little of this and a little of that" is usually my answer.

My sister and her family have left to go back to their home now. The house seems so quiet and it's weird. Next week I start working with one little guy. I'll be going to camps with him to be his support worker. I am excited!

Inigo has become a brat in the last week or so. He has decided that he's going to take the pellets out of the bottom of the cage, carry them to his door and then drop them on the ground. He loves watching it fall. That's so weird, as I was typing that he actually did it twice. Make that 3 times. Then he sits on his perch and yells (it's not nice chirping, it's very screechy). Then he looks at himself in the mirror and has a nice little conversation with himself. So weird!! Why do all my animals seem to have the weirdest personalities!!! Seriously!

Last night B and I watched a movie. It was my choice of movie and it didn't seem so bad, a little cliche and a little predictable but manageable. Than at the end they cranked up the cheese and B voiced how I picked terrible movies. (He was joking of course because we all know I have impeccable taste in movies).

Well, I think I'm going to drag my sewing machine out today and see if I can figure out how it works again....been forever since the last time I sewed anything. Until next time
