A Camping we will go

So like I had mentioned in yesterday's post we went camping last weekend. It was so much fun! We arrived just before 4pm and gave hugs to our friends who had already set up their tent. We quickly set up our things and chatted. It was a glorious camping trip in that we were with good company. We all enjoy a kick back and relax type camping trip so there were no hard feelings for not doing a hardcore hike or anything. It was very much what B needed as his work has been stressful lately and for him to sit back and relax is not only good for him, but for me to see him relax. Even though he says it's hard not to think about all the other things that need to be done. Anyways back to our camping trip. We lit a fire so we could prepare dinner (hotdogs on a stick) because that's just a classic camping food. We also had some Broccoli and Rice caserole as requested from B two weeks prior to the camping trip so when I said it was requested by him, he had no memory of doing so.

The camp ground we went to had a lot of rules. They were posted everywhere. In the washroom was my favourite place to read them. Including you could not use the twigs and such for your fire. You must either bring your own wood or buy some from the campground. We didn't bring
wood with us so we purchased ours from the campground. They had a very structured and sound set up around this. You tell the person outside that you're going inside to buy some wood. You go in and pay. The person at the till gives you a sticky note saying you paid and then you go outside and give your sticky note to the person who you first talked to who is now accompanied by a wheelbarrow full of wood. It was funny to say the least and we were not hesitant on making fun of it.
After we had dinner we kept putting more and more wood on the fire to make it nice and toasty cause it was starting to get COLD! Very cold. Our wood kept crackling because it was partially wet. But because we are camping with geniuses they lined the outside of the pit with the wet wood so they would dry out faster. This worked and soon enough we had a brilliant fire. We finished our evening off with banana boats. This is when you cut up a banana in 1/4's and surround it with large marshmellows...about 4-7 (depends on your taste), and some chocolate. I brought caramilk bars so we could have both chocolate and caramel. Then you put your tinfoil (nicely closed up) on top of the coals or on a grate over your fire...not in the flame. You don't want to cook it...just melt everything. Wait for about 10-15minutes and then your oozy goodness is ready. So yummy! A great way to end the evening.

Camping the first night was oober cold. It started raining at about 1am and I was shivering like crazy. Finally I put on an extra sweater and B brought out our extra blanket and then things were fine. Well almost fine. You see when we first entered into the campground we drove over some train tracks. I asked B as we drove over them, do you think these tracks still get used? And he replied, yep. I innocently thought that maybe the trains had some common courtesy and wouldn't go through the night. I was wrong. And not only did they go past every hour they honked their horn every time because they had to. Because the tracks went right over the road leading into the campground it had to announce itself every time! I don't know how else I can emphasize that it was loud. My favourite part (I'm speaking sarcastically of course) was when the one train attached itself to another one. Isn't that what everyone wants to hear about 2am? Clang, Clang, Clang! It made for some interesting conversations throughout the weekend. By the end of our weekend we were able to tune it out most of the time (it happened every hour).

We also went for a nice relaxing walk on the Saturday. It was leisurely. No rush, no intensity. It was nice. We also went and sat by the water. We didn't go in because it was just too windy making it too chilly. But sitting by it was lovely. B and our friend Jordan kept themselves busy playing with rocks and sticks. While Jeanine and myself sat calmly on the side and watched, always being entertained. We also played a few games of dominion. It is the game they introduced us to on our last camping trip and we quickly became addicted to.

The second night wasn't as cold. It was actually really nice. We woke up and started to pack up our things. This weekend went too fast we protested. But soon we were all packed up and about to say our goodbyes when the camp director came by and announced that there had been a mudslide and the highway was closed. So our adventure continued for a while longer. As we came up with a plan we decided we would go and check at the office if they had a current update on the road. When we got there we found out the road had just opened. So on our way home we went. We stopped in Sicamous and got some ice cream from the De Dutchman Dairy (soooo good) and then continued on home. And that my friends concludes our camping trip story.

Looking forward to the next camping trip. (Maybe next time without trains).
Michelle
